A return to Radio control after 8 years!

Postby tommyturbo83 » 05 Sep 2010, 22:40

Used to race at aldershot and other tracks back when I did the kyosho cup and verious winter series. I have only ever raced nitro and would love to get back into it! It seems it a dying breed tho. Would I be able to race my kyosho super ten or v one s at aldershot? Really want to race again! Thanks tom :)

Hi Tom

Afraid the nitro racing has kinda died at Aldershot at the moment. Do not think we have seen a heat of nitro for several months. The club needs to get at 4 or 5 cars to be able to run a heat.

You can still practice at the track if you become a member although only between 1.00pm and 4.00pm with nitro because we have had a few noise problems.

The electric racing is still going strong - if you fancy coming over to the dark side, 13.5T brushless touring cars is by far the most popular class and there is some good close racing to be had. Sure you could pick up a decent second-hand car trackside to give it a go.

Cheers

Rob

As Rob says, we have not had any Nitro car racing at Aldershot since the last Winter series started back in October 2009.
The main problem being the 'Noise Nusanse' issue brought against us by the Council, and this has restricted IC cars to a maximum of 2 hours of running in any 24 hr period, and that IC activity had to be shut down by 4pm.
Your best bet if you want to return to racing is to go to the Electric side, which these days does not have the running costs and maintenance it used to have since the introduction of LiPo cells and Brushless motors, and tyres have come a long way since those Kyosho Cup days.

Nigel Moss! Its been a very long time, hope your well. Good to see your still racing?

Thanks to the both of you for the info. It a really shame about i.c as im a compleat petrol head and love the noise, good on the council and residents :(

Is there a race on this weekend? Will pop down if so...

Tom

IC is still going strong at other tracks.
Adur MCC (near Shoreham) have a decent EP/GP meeting roughly every other week ... lots of noise and smells from 1/10 and 1/8 cars.

That said modern EP cars are as quick as (maybe quicker than) gas now and very popular.

Go on .. get back on the sticks!

Electric are now officially quicker than IC at Aldershot
24 laps have now been completed by an Electric car in a National meeting, and they could have carried on running as there was no sign of dumping.
Eben the top runners in 13.5 Stock are doing 21 laps, and top 10.5 times are 22:300.

Shame about the noise issue as that Kyosho KF01 looks interesting

EP has always been the fastest, just in the club racing i used to do gp was about the same. Will take a look at the adur track website. That Kyosho Nitro F1 looks great, we need to start a series up for them nigel

Is anyone racing this weekend, only 40 mins away??

There is a race meeting on at West London this weekend if you fancy coming out and checking out some electric action, Aldershot has good numbers of electric racers and there is always a good fun atmosphere like the good old days.

I myself was an out and out IC racer and have gone over to the dark side of electric this year and have loved it, maybe even the best year of racing I have had in 10 years of rc racing.

Come check it out.
